Needy Student Who Was Rescued From Carpentry job In Dandora Scores Straight A’s.

Peter James, a student at Murang’a High School, has become an inspiring figure, demonstrating remarkable academic success despite facing immense hardships. After completing primary school, Peter was unable to pursue secondary education due to financial constraints.

In order to survive, he worked as a carpenter in Dandora, where he painted and cleaned furniture while holding on to the dream of furthering his education. His fortunes changed when philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro, founder of the Affecto Foundation, learned about Peter’s plight and offered to support him. Thanks to Nyoro’s intervention, Peter was able to attend Murang’a High School, where he vowed to excel—a promise he fulfilled.

On January 9, 2025, Education CS Julius Ogamba revealed the results of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), with Peter James emerging as one of the top achievers, scoring a remarkable A plain. His academic success is a testament not only to his hard work but also to the resilience and determination that helped him overcome numerous obstacles. Peter is one of the 1,693 students who earned straight A’s this year, proving that with determination and the right opportunities, success is possible even in the most challenging circumstances.

Peter hails from Zimbabwe and is a member of the marginalized Shona community. His story has resonated with many people, serving as a powerful example of perseverance. Nyoro expressed immense pride in Peter’s accomplishments, urging others to join in celebrating this remarkable achievement. Peter’s journey from carpenter to top student is a testament to the transformative power of education when coupled with the right support and determination.
