Former Billionaire and Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo to be Laid to Rest on December 30

The family of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo has confirmed that he will be laid to rest on December 30, 2025, bringing clarity to burial arrangements following his sudden and tragic death in a road accident. The announcement has helped ease public speculation surrounding his final resting place, given his extensive ties across different parts of the country.

Speaking on behalf of the burial committee, former Vihiga Senator George Khaniri revealed that the family reached the decision after extensive consultations. He explained that Jirongo’s multiple residences initially posed a challenge as relatives deliberated on where he should be buried. After careful consideration, the family unanimously agreed on both the burial date and location.

According to Khaniri, the late politician will be laid to rest at his Lumakanda home, a place of deep family significance. The site was chosen because it is where Jirongo’s parents were also buried, making it a fitting final resting place that reflects his roots and heritage. The family emphasized that the decision was made collectively and in line with cultural and personal considerations.

Cyrus Jirongo, aged 64, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, following a fatal road accident in the Karai area of Naivasha, Nakuru County. Police reports indicate that the former legislator was driving his private vehicle along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway at around 3:00 a.m. when it was involved in a head-on collision with a passenger bus. Preliminary investigations suggest that he was travelling from Nakuru towards Nairobi at the time of the accident.

His death has sparked an outpouring of grief across the country, with political leaders and members of the public paying tribute to his legacy. Many have remembered Jirongo as a fearless and outspoken politician who played a significant role during Kenya’s multiparty era. Beyond politics, he was also known as a businessman and influential public figure who left a lasting mark on national discourse.

As preparations for his burial continue, the family has appealed for unity and prayers, thanking Kenyans for the overwhelming messages of condolence and support. The burial is expected to draw leaders, friends, and supporters from across the country as they gather to bid farewell to a man whose political journey shaped an important chapter in Kenya’s history.
