Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed the recall of bodyguards assigned to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, insisting the move is part of a wider security review affecting several political leaders.
Murkomen explained that the withdrawal is not targeted at Natembeya alone, but is a routine restructuring by the National Police Service. According to him, multiple politicians across the country have had their security teams reassigned or rotated.
He further claimed that some officers deployed to VIPs had been misusing their firearms and engaging in activities outside their mandate, including accusations of working with hired goons during political events. Murkomen said the government is tightening oversight to ensure police officers assigned to leaders strictly adhere to professional conduct.
The CS urged leaders to remain calm, saying the review is meant to enhance discipline within the security sector and ensure police resources are properly utilized.
