A delivery rider identified as Anthony Olwal was brutally murdered on November 18, 2025, in South B, Nairobi, after going to deliver a phone on behalf of his wife, who sells mobile phones online. The shocking incident has sparked anger and fear among delivery workers across the city.
According to his colleague Fredrick Muga, Anthony was assigned to deliver an iPhone 17 Pro Max on a pay-on-delivery arrangement. He left early in the morning for what seemed like a routine assignment, but when his phone later went off, friends and family grew worried.
Muga explained that Anthony arrived at the provided address and was met by two men, who led him to a second-floor guesthouse. Once inside, things took a horrifying turn. After Anthony asked for payment, a confrontation erupted. He was allegedly tied up and murdered in cold blood.
His body was discovered hidden under a bed inside the guesthouse, leaving the community and fellow riders deeply shaken.
What makes the incident even more disturbing is that Anthony was known to be extremely cautious and rarely entered customers’ premises. His colleagues are now questioning how he ended up inside the room that ultimately became a trap.
Security footage shared by Muga reportedly shows the suspects struggling with the guesthouse manager as they attempted to leave. They allegedly fled with Anthony’s personal phone, raising further questions about how the attackers planned the ambush.
The murder has triggered widespread outrage among Nairobi’s boda boda community. Many riders say they constantly face danger, especially when delivering high-value items like smartphones. Muga also revealed that he has escaped several planned attacks in the past, calling the situation a growing threat that needs urgent attention.
On social media, Kenyans have expressed heartbreak, anger, and frustration, demanding justice for Anthony and stronger protection for riders. Many are now calling for stricter safety guidelines, including only meeting customers in open, public areas, particularly when handling expensive deliveries.
Anthony’s death has once again highlighted the harsh risks delivery workers face every day—and the urgent need for better safety measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
