Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula has fired a sharp warning at former senator Cyrus Natembeya, accusing him of overstating his prominence and undermining Kenya Kwanza’s cohesion.
Speaking during a political rally, Wetangula dismissed Natembeya’s claim to fame, recalling legendary Luhya leaders who shaped the community’s political history.
“Natembeya thinks he is the first Luhya leader to be famous and popular. We had Kijana Wamalwa and Masinde Muliro, where are they? Natembeya needs to stop making ground hostile for Kenya Kwanza,” Wetangula stated.
The remarks highlight simmering tensions within Luhya politics, where competition for leadership and influence has intensified ahead of the 2027 elections. Wetangula’s statement was seen as a defense of Kenya Kwanza’s unity, warning against actions that could fracture the coalition.
Political analysts say the exchange underscores the ongoing struggle for relevance among Luhya leaders, reflecting historical legacies versus contemporary political ambitions. The comments have since sparked lively debate online, with social media users weighing in on whether Natembeya’s influence is overstated or whether Wetangula is seeking to assert his own authority.
