Shock and anger gripped residents of Kisii County after a 56-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sodomizing a four-year-old boy in Nyamache area. The disturbing incident has once again put Kisii on the spotlight following a series of similar reports that have been making headlines in recent months.
According to police reports, the elderly man lured the innocent child into his house on Monday evening. Neighbors raised alarm after noticing the boy crying uncontrollably when he later walked out of the suspect’s home. Upon interrogation by family members, the boy revealed the painful ordeal he had been subjected to, sparking outrage among locals.
The minor was rushed to Nyamache Sub-County Hospital where medical examinations confirmed that he had been defiled. Police officers immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect, who had attempted to flee after learning that the incident had been reported. He was later arrested and taken into custody at Nyamache Police Station.
Area residents condemned the act, describing it as evil and shameful. They demanded that strict action be taken against the suspect, with some saying that Kisii should even be fenced off if such incidents continue to happen unabated. “Every day we are hearing of cases of defilement, incest, and killings in Kisii. Something is wrong in this community. The government must act,” said one angry resident.
Leaders and human rights groups have also joined in condemning the crime, calling for speedy prosecution of the suspect. They further urged parents to be more watchful over their children, noting that most cases happen when minors are left unattended.
Police have assured the public that the man will face charges in court once investigations are complete. Kisii County Police Commander urged residents to remain calm and allow the law to take its course, promising that justice for the young victim will be served.
The incident has reignited debate on the rising cases of child abuse in the region. Many are now demanding that authorities intensify awareness campaigns, impose harsher punishments on offenders, and strengthen community policing to protect children from such predators.
