Police officers in Busia County have arrested a man found ferrying 12 kilograms of cannabis on a motorcycle at the Suo roadblock along the Busia–Kisumu Highway.
According to authorities, the illegal consignment, estimated to be worth Ksh. 360,000, was being transported for distribution within the region. The suspect was intercepted after officers conducting routine checks flagged down the motorcycle and discovered the narcotics hidden in a sack.
Two of the suspect’s accomplices, who were reportedly escorting the consignment, managed to escape on foot during the operation. Police have since launched a manhunt for the fugitives, vowing to dismantle the drug trafficking network believed to be operating along the Kenya–Uganda border.
The arrested suspect is being held at Busia Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and share any information that could aid in the fight against narcotics, warning that drug trafficking continues to pose a major threat to the youth in the region.
