A tragic incident in Kangema constituency, Murang’a, has left a family shattered after a mother allegedly killed her two children following a late-night domestic dispute.
The shocking event took place in a rental compound in Kanorero town on September 19, 2025.
Investigations indicate that the couple had argued over marital issues, and the woman told her husband that she wanted to leave him shortly before killing her two children.
The husband is said to have returned to sleep after the exchange, only to later be alerted to the commotion that revealed the death of two of his sons.
The victims have been identified as Leon Wanjohi, aged seven, and Lael Mwangi, aged two.
Postmortem results showed that both children died from multiple stab wounds inflicted with a sharp object.
Their four-year-old brother survived with serious injuries and has since been discharged from Murang’a Level Five Hospital after receiving treatment.
Police reports confirm that the mother surrendered herself to officers at Kanorero Police Post while bleeding from stab wounds.
She was later moved to Kangema Police Station, where she is being held as the main suspect.
Authorities have sought more time from the court to continue investigations and determine whether murder and attempted murder charges will be formally filed.
The father of the children has already recorded a statement with police and is said to be struggling with the double tragedy while also preparing for the burial scheduled for September 30.
He is reportedly torn between mourning the loss of his children and confronting the reality that his wife remains in custody awaiting a decision on her fate.
The case has drawn concern in Murang’a, with investigators working to piece together the events leading to the shocking murders.
