President Ruto declares August 27 as Katiba Day, ‘lakini kazi utaenda kawaida’

President William Ruto has officially designated August 27 as “Katiba Day”, a day dedicated to commemorating the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya.

The President explained that Katiba Day will be observed across the country and in all Kenyan diplomatic missions abroad, serving as a moment to renew the nation’s shared commitment to constitutional ideals through dialogue on governance, constitutionalism, and the rule of law.

“On August 27, 2025, we will mark 15 years since the adoption of the 2010 Constitution. This milestone provides a unique opportunity to celebrate a document recognized globally as one of the most progressive and transformative in history,” President Ruto said.

He emphasized that the day should remind Kenyans of their collective responsibility to uphold, protect, and implement the Constitution.

However, those expecting a holiday should note that Katiba Day will not be a day off work. It will remain a working day, though all government institutions—across the three arms of government, the two levels of governance, and including schools—will be required to organize and participate in civic activities aimed at promoting constitutional awareness and public engagement.
