Former Radio Citizen host Joyce Gituro candidly discussed how communication breakdown contributed to the collapse of her marriage during a Radio Jambo interview. The 53-year-old single mother of three—two sons and a daughter—revealed that after her marriage ended in 2008, she poured all her energy into raising her kids and hasn’t remarried since.
Reflecting on her failed union, she admitted: “Nilimyamazia, I broke off communication. I kept quiet instead of engaging and finding a solution. I was full of pride and refused to discuss anything,” adding that “men are also not good at communication.” Though her ex-husband tried to reconnect, “by the time he was engaging, the damage had already been done… women check out emotionally very early… I was tired, and he was also tired.” Despite everything, they still maintain a respectful relationship for the sake of their children.
Nearly 15 years on, Joyce remains hopeful about love. She’s seeking a partner aged between 48 and 58—someone financially stable, affectionate, and open to travel with her. Her son, Jakes Nyanjom, set the bar even higher, saying any suitor must be “doing two times better than her,” patient, church-going, and someone who truly inspires Joyce.
