A dramatic scene unfolded on Saturday at the Vision Beyond Living Gospel Church in Ngurubani when a woman and her five children disrupted a wedding ceremony, accusing the groom—Reverend Chomba—of abandoning his family to marry another woman.
The unexpected interruption occurred just moments before the 38-year-old pastor was set to exchange vows with Regina, a fellow minister at the same church. As the ceremony began, a woman identified as Rose stormed in with her children, claiming to be Chomba’s legal wife since 2013.
“This man is my husband. We had a church wedding and have five children together. He never told me he planned to remarry,” Rose told journalists gathered outside the church. She said they were never divorced and accused the pastor of walking out on the family nearly a year ago without explanation, support, or communication.
Rose also claimed Chomba was attempting to sell off their family land without her knowledge or consent.
Emotions ran high as one of their children tearfully spoke out, saying, “Our mother has been raising us on her own. It hurts to see him act like we don’t matter.”
Tension quickly escalated inside the church. Some guests tried to prevent Rose from reaching the altar, but the disruption had already taken its toll. Concerned members of the congregation called the police, and officers from Wanguru Police Station soon arrived to de-escalate the situation.
Mwea East Police Commander Patrick Nyaanga confirmed the incident and noted that investigations are underway.
The wedding was called off on the spot, and the church leadership has yet to release an official statement regarding the pastor’s alleged marital status or the events that unfolded.
The story has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread debate about the integrity of religious leaders and the responsibilities they carry—especially in matters of family and faith.
As investigations continue, both the church and the affected family are left to deal with the emotional and reputational fallout from what was meant to be a sacred celebration.
