Samuel Muchoki, widely known by his stage name Samidoh, has risen to prominence as one of the most accomplished vernacular artists in the country. His musical talent, combined with his role as a police officer, has made him a household name.
However, there is a lesser-known yet significant chapter of his life that traces back to his time in the National Youth Service (NYS) and the unexpected events that shaped his journey to his current dual roles.
Samidoh’s multifaceted career took an unforeseen turn during his tenure at the NYS. In a candid interview with comedian Daniel Ndambuki, popularly known as Churchill, Samidoh revealed that he was expelled from the NYS school in Gilgil, Nakuru County. This expulsion stemmed from his decision to attend an Administration Police (AP) recruitment exercise in Nyandarua County without obtaining proper authorization. Despite this setback, Samidoh’s journey was far from over.
Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Samidoh recounted, “I sneaked out of NYS school in Gilgil and attended an Administration Police recruitment in Nyandarua. However, I was not successful, and when I got back to NYS, they initially treated me like nothing had happened, but they knew I had sneaked out and later expelled me from the service.”
This unexpected turn of events placed Samidoh at a critical crossroads in his life. Undeterred by the challenges, he secured a job as a data entry clerk at a flower farm in Nyandarua, his home county. It was during this time that his determination to join the security forces persisted.
Although initially rejected due to his slender build, Samidoh’s perseverance bore fruit on his third attempt when he successfully joined the Administration Police, a branch of Kenya’s National Police Service. His journey exemplifies resilience and unwavering dedication.
As a police officer, Samidoh’s first assignment was in Eastleigh, Nairobi, followed by a posting to Mpeketoni in Lamu County. These roles not only highlight his commitment to public service but also reflect the grit and determination that have defined his remarkable career.
Today, Samidoh stands as a beacon of inspiration, demonstrating how resilience and determination can transform setbacks into stepping stones toward success. His story, rooted in humble beginnings, underscores the power of persistence and adaptability in overcoming life’s challenges.
