A man in his 70s is presently in the process of recuperating from injuries he sustained during a physical altercation with his daughter-in-law concerning a piece of grazing land in Migori.
As per Chief Charles Onindo of Kajulu Two, both individuals involved in the altercation sustained serious lacerations during the incident. Chief Onindo explained that he was alerted by concerned members of the public and subsequently rushed to the scene in the Onge’nga area.
The 24-year-old woman had apparently taken her cattle to graze, a move which the elderly man, identified only as Auko, contested, asserting that she was doing so without his consent on his property. In response to this dispute, Auko resorted to wielding a machete (panga) against the woman, leading to her retaliatory action of injuring him in the hand.
The law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, with the intention of taking appropriate actions based on the findings. Currently, the elderly man remains hospitalized due to the injuries he sustained during the confrontation with his daughter-in-law.
In light of this incident, local authorities have called upon the community to explore alternative methods of dispute resolution. Chief Onindo expressed his intention to convene a family meeting after the elderly man’s discharge from the hospital, in an effort to facilitate reconciliation between the two parties.
