Thirteen inmates, including Collins Jumaisi, a key suspect in the Kware murder case, have escaped from Gigiri Police Station. Jumaisi, who was being held along with twelve Eritrean detainees for overstaying in the country, managed to break free from custody.
According to a police report, the escape was discovered by officers Evans Kipkirui and Gerald Mutuku during their routine check of the cells with the canteen manager. The officers found that the inmates had cut through a wire mesh that was part of the cell’s security and scaled the perimeter wall to escape.
DCI Director Mohamed Amin has confirmed the escape and announced that a renewed search is underway to recapture the fugitives. Jumaisi, a high-profile suspect, was awaiting plea proceedings scheduled for Friday.
Jumaisi had previously admitted to the murders of up to 42 women, although he denied the charges. The suspects, including Jumaisi, had recently appeared before Makadara Principal Magistrate Irine Gichobi. During the court session, the prosecution requested to detain the three main suspects for an additional 21 days. After reviewing the submissions, the court ruled that Jumaisi, as the primary suspect, should be held at Gigiri Police Station for an additional seven days.
“This incident is regrettable, but we are actively pursuing the matter to ensure appropriate action is taken,” a police spokesperson stated.
