Bien Aime-Barazza, the former lead member of the now-disbanded Sauti Sol, recently disclosed that githeri holds the unenviable title of being his least favorite meal. Githeri, a combination of maize and beans, enjoys popularity as a traditional dish among Kenyans.
During a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, Bien expressed his strong aversion to githeri, making it abundantly clear that its presence is unwelcome in his household. He shared that he explicitly instructed his house manager, with his wife and mother also well aware, that nobody should prepare this particular dish under any circumstances.
The artist recounted futile attempts to enhance the culinary appeal of githeri, experimenting with additions like avocado and blue band. Recalling his boarding school days, Bien emphasized that the dish had left a lasting negative impact on him. He extended his culinary dislikes to include cabbage, unequivocally stating that he is “done with cabbage” and that githeri stands as his “worst meal in the world.”
In contrast, Bien revealed a culinary preference for ugali, describing it as one of his favorite meals. He distinguished ugali from the despised githeri, highlighting the former’s preparation involving maize and oil, along with the addition of tomatoes.
On a different note, Bien expressed a mature perspective regarding relationships by stating that he wouldn’t object to his wife attending her ex’s funeral, especially if they shared a child. He criticized the pettiness of those who hinder their partners from grieving the loss of former lovers, emphasizing that attending such events as a friend, and particularly as a parent paying respects to the deceased child’s father, should be seen as a natural and respectful act.
