A woman has shared her heartbreak after the man she supported through university abandoned her for a new life—one she says she sacrificed everything to help him build.
Getrude Yohana met Ramadhani in 2009 while he was still in high school. By 2011, they had moved in together despite struggling financially—Getrude working as a casual laborer and Ramadhani as a security guard.
When he expressed his dream of pursuing higher education, Getrude says she took loans and worked multiple odd jobs to pay his tuition, buy books, and keep their household afloat. She estimates spending nearly TZS 3.5 million (KSh 169,113) on his education.
After Ramadhani graduated in 2013, he landed a well-paying job at a local bank. But according to Getrude, success changed him.
“He became distant and abusive. He mocked me for having only a primary school education and even insulted my looks,” she said. “He told me he was embarrassed to be seen with someone like me.”
Eventually, Getrude claims, he forced her and their two children out of their home. Though a court ordered him to pay child support, she alleges he has ignored the ruling, accused her of theft, and even issued threats after she reported him to the children’s office.
Now battling depression, Getrude says she has no interest in reconciling. Her only plea is for Ramadhani to take responsibility for their children.
Ramadhani has denied all allegations, insisting Getrude never funded his education and challenging her to provide proof.
The bitter fallout continues as Getrude appeals to local authorities to intervene—not for herself, she says, but for the future of their children.
