Why Angry Hussein Mohammed, Morara Kebaso Clashed on Live TV

On Wednesday evening, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed refuted allegations made by activist Morara Kebaso, who claimed that President William Ruto had contacted him with a job offer.

In an interview on Citizen TV, Hussein expressed disbelief at Morara’s claim, describing it as ‘unbelievable’ and questioning why such a statement was made on national television.

Hussein asserted that no such communication occurred, dismissing Morara’s remarks as mere fabrications. “I am shocked by what Morara is saying. It’s astounding that he would lie on national TV about the President calling him. It’s absurd that I have to address this, but since you allowed it on TV, I must respond,” Hussein said during the live broadcast.

Morara, known for his vocal criticism of the government and scrutiny of both active and suspended government projects, had claimed that President Ruto reached out to him with a job offer, which he declined. He chose not to provide details of their conversation, only stating that he was offered a state position but refused it.

“I initially received calls from people around the President, and eventually, I spoke directly with him. I spoke respectfully because he is our President and has been elected by the people. I declined the offer of a state position. The government is vast,” Morara stated.

Hussein also criticized Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange for allowing Morara to make such claims without demanding evidence. He argued that Koinange should have used terms like ‘alleged’ or ‘claimed’ rather than presenting Morara’s statements as fact.

“What is more shocking, Jeff, is that you allowed someone to come on TV and make such claims without requiring any proof or substantiation. You should have clarified that these were his words or alleged claims, not accepted them as fact. Anyone can make such claims,” Hussein said.

He further added, “Many Kenyans have the President’s number. If Morara is claiming that the President called him, he needs to provide proof. Will you let anyone walk into your studios and claim they were contacted by the President without verification?”
