The US Embassy in Kenya has addressed a public notice letter stating that Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi have been banned from travelling to the United States of America.
The letter dated December 1, 2024, that has been doing rounds on social media stated that a travel restriction had been imposed on the two by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
“The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in coordination with the U.S Embassy in Kenya herewith restricts the individuals named from entering The United States of America indefinitely until further consideration and advisory by The U.S Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),” read the letter.
The document stated that the cessation of movement of the Murkomen and Sudi to the US was to be effective as of December 1, 2024, at the stroke of midnight.

It further alleged that the two senior government officials were under investigation for receiving bribes to facilitate tenders to an international conglomerate firm.
“The current indefinite entry restrictions into the US denote that there will be a suspension of visa exemption policy and issuance of tourist visa ande-visa” the fake letter further stated.
However, the US embassy on Monday flagged the letter as fake.
Also, a close look at the fake document by muranganewss revealed typos, inconsistent fonts and formatting that raised red flags over its credibility.
The fake letter comes in the wake of fake news that has increased this year.
Fake letter flagged
The State Departent of Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing’oei, in September flagged another viral letter circulating on social media which alleged that the American Non-Governmental Organization, Ford Foundation, has issued an apology to the government of Kenya.
The letter dated September 26 and allegedly addressed to PS Korir claimed that the apology was rendered following a productive meeting between Ford Foundation President Darren Walker and President William Ruto during the UNGA meetings in New York
“We want to address the concerns raised in your recent communication regarding the involvement of our grantees in the protests that took place in June 2025. After conducting internal audits and investigations, we confirm that some of our grantees did, in fact, use their funds to support and participate in these protests,” read part of the fake letter.
In his response to the reports, PS Korir stated that he was not in receipt of the said letter adding that it was fake.
