The Ksh60 Million Restaurant Owned By Trevor Ombija Specializing In Seafood

With many media houses downsizing and laying off top journalists, the idea of having a side hustle has become increasingly appealing to journalists. One such journalist is Trevor Ombija, who co-owns the Ksh60 million Samaki Samaki restaurant in Kileleshwa along Othaya Road. According to Trevor, he is the majority shareholder of the establishment, which he started almost one and a half years ago and officially opened in December.

The restaurant, which serves both traditional and popular dishes such as chicken, lamb chops, and goat meat, as well as Ugali, is quite expensive. Lobster goes for Ksh2,900, tilapia for Ksh1,200, king prawns for Ksh2,900, and tuna for Ksh1,850. In addition, beer goes for Ksh500 and cocktails range from Ksh700 to Ksh1,200.

The space is beautifully designed and cozy, with a bar featuring lampshades that resemble small upside-down bamboo fishing nets that come alive at night when lit. Samaki Samaki is also known for its jazz music, but has faced criticism for playing loud music in a residential area. Former beauty queen Emma Too has accused Trevor of orchestrating attempts to shut down the restaurant over noise pollution, but Trevor claims that they have reduced the volume and offered to soundproof the neighbor’s house. Despite these efforts, Emma continues to call for the music to be turned down and for the restaurant to stop parking at her house.
