Shop owner, watchman killed in cold blood as robbers run berserk in Bunyore, Vihiga County

Authorities in Bunyore, Vihiga County, are currently probing a distressing incident involving armed assailants who claimed the lives of two individuals in Emakakha village during the night of Sunday, April 14.

According to a report lodged at Embali Police Station, the perpetrators targeted the 2000 Retailers Shop, resulting in the tragic demise of both a security guard, Luka Ongaya, aged 68, and the proprietor of the establishment, Edward Atsibilwa, aged 58. Atsibilwa was found asleep inside his shop at the time of the attack.

Following the fatal assault, the assailants proceeded to loot merchandise and two mobile phones, collectively valued at KSh300,000.

Law enforcement personnel from the National Police Service, alongside officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, promptly visited the crime scene. Subsequent investigations revealed that the perpetrators also targeted three other shops within the vicinity.

A detailed inventory of stolen items from the affected establishments includes:

  1. Phanice Akoyo, aged 85 – four mattresses, 35 KG of sugar, 25 KG of rice, 3 cartons of milk, and six cooking pots, along with assorted exercise books.
  2. Phanice Nyabera – 50 sockets, 50 light bulbs, and electrical cables.
  3. Joyce Achieng – one blow dryer, shaving machine, heaters, towels, and three chairs.

The victims displayed severe lacerations to the head, indicative of injuries inflicted by sharp objects. Their remains were subsequently transported to Puche Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
