Drama unfolded in the affluent neighborhood of Kiharu Estate, Murang’a Town, when a man made a startling confession of impregnating his wife’s mother.
Samson Njenga, the father-in-law, disclosed that his suspicion arose when his wife informed him of her pregnancy. Intrigued by this revelation, considering he had discreetly opted for male birth control (implants) without his wife’s knowledge, Samson sought clarification.
“I went to the doctor and got the implant because I didn’t want to have another child. So, when my wife revealed her pregnancy, I knew she had stepped outside our marital vows,” shared Samson with the Murang’a Newspaper.
Confronting his wife after learning of her pregnancy, Samson discovered that she had indeed been unfaithful. However, she remained silent about the identity of the man responsible for the pregnancy. Faced with the threat of divorce, she eventually summoned Mwangi (the son-in-law) and their daughter, initially leading Samson to believe they were pleading on her behalf.
To his astonishment, the mother-in-law admitted to having a relationship with her son-in-law when they all gathered. In response, Samson convened both their clan members, along with his and his wife’s families, to address the grave situation.
After extensive consultations with the elders, a decision was reached that the woman must undergo a legal abortion in adherence to government procedures and Kikuyu customs. Given the abominable nature of the situation in the Kikuyu community, the family is mandated to undergo rigorous cleansing rituals to avert a looming calamity.
