In a move aimed at making education more accessible, the Kiharu County government has announced that school fees for all day secondary schools in the region will be reduced to KSh 500 per term.
The decision, lauded by parents and education stakeholders, is part of ongoing efforts to ease the financial burden on families and ensure that more children can complete their secondary education without economic barriers.
County officials noted that the reduced fees cover basic tuition, while other costs such as uniforms, books, and extra-curricular activities will continue to be the responsibility of parents.
Education advocates have welcomed the move, emphasizing that affordable education can significantly improve school enrollment and retention rates, particularly in rural and underserved areas like Kiharu.
Parents in the region expressed relief and gratitude for the reduction, saying it will make it easier to plan for their children’s education while focusing on quality learning outcomes.
The county government has also encouraged schools to maintain high standards of teaching despite the lower fees, ensuring that students continue to receive quality education.
