Earlier today, a tragic incident claimed the lives of four individuals at the Hill Tea area along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway. The unfortunate event occurred at approximately 5:00 am when a 14-seater matatu collided head-on with a 60-seater bus bound for Nakuru.

As per the police report, the matatu, carrying 16 passengers, including the driver, collided with the fully occupied bus, resulting in immediate fatalities. The driver of the matatu, along with three passengers, lost their lives in the accident.

Nine other passengers sustained serious injuries and were promptly transported to Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital for medical attention. Simultaneously, the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the same medical facility.

This incident follows closely on the heels of another tragedy less than a day prior, where 12 individuals lost their lives, and eight others were injured along the Kikima-Machakos Road in Mbooni, Makueni County. An eyewitness, speaking to the press on Saturday, attributed the cause of the accident to brake failure as the driver attempted to negotiate a corner.

Confirming the unfortunate event, Mbooni West Deputy County Commissioner Stanlas Apwoka revealed that the 14-seater matatu involved was carrying an excess number of passengers.

In response to the tragedy, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and pledged full support for those injured in the accident.
