President William Ruto has strongly rejected claims by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other critics regarding the management of the government’s housing programs.
Speaking during a public address, Ruto dismissed suggestions that his opponents could continue or improve initiatives such as the Social Housing Programme (SHA) and the Affordable Housing projects.
“Gachagua na wenzake ambao hawana akili, wanasema ati wakichukua serikali watatoa SHA na affordable housing zile nimetengeneza na zinafanya kazi,” he said.
Ruto emphasized that the programs, which were developed and implemented under his administration, are functioning effectively and would continue to benefit Kenyans even after his tenure. He singled out Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki as a figure capable of sustaining these initiatives.
“Hata William Ruto akitoka, Kithure Kindiki atabaki kuendeleza ile kazi imefanywa na UDA. We can’t afford the politics of start and stop!” Ruto added, underscoring his concerns about political disruption to ongoing projects.
The President’s remarks highlight the ongoing debate within Kenyan politics about the continuity of government programs amid changing administrations. Analysts note that the statements reflect broader concerns over policy sustainability and the risks of politicizing key development initiatives.
Ruto’s strong response comes amid rising political rhetoric, as party leaders position themselves ahead of upcoming electoral contests and seek to assert influence over national development agendas.
