Residents of Riabai in Kiambu County are struggling to come to terms with a tragedy that has left one family in deep pain.
A young man and his girlfriend were found dead inside their home in what police suspect to be a case of murder-suicide.
The incident came to light after neighbors noticed that the house had remained locked for an unusual period.
Their concerns grew, prompting them to check through a window, where they were met with the grim sight of the two lifeless bodies.
Police officers arrived shortly after and broke into the house to retrieve the bodies.
Kiambu OCPD Francis Njomo confirmed the incident and urged young people to seek guidance from elders whenever challenges seem overwhelming.
He stressed that dialogue and counseling can help prevent such heartbreaking outcomes.
The man was identified as 25-year-old Joseph Mburu.
His mother, Nancy Nyambura, was overcome with grief as she revealed that her husband had died in February after battling cancer.
She said the loss of her only son just six months later had left her devastated.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deaths occurred on Tuesday night, although detectives are yet to establish the motive behind the tragedy.
The bodies were moved to a nearby mortuary as inquiries continue.
Local leaders have since appealed to residents to resolve personal issues peacefully, noting that violence only deepens sorrow and leaves families shattered.
The double tragedy has cast a heavy cloud over Riabai village, with neighbors rallying around the bereaved family as they come to terms with the shocking loss.
