Police officers in Kapsabet, Nandi County, have launched a manhunt for an unidentified suspect who brazenly dismantled and stole one side of the gate at a local police station before selling it as scrap metal.
According to reports, the incident occurred under mysterious circumstances, raising serious questions about security lapses at the station. The suspect is said to have removed the metal gate piece without raising suspicion, and later sold it to a scrap metal dealer within the area.
Authorities discovered the theft during a routine inspection and were shocked to find that a portion of the main gate was missing. Investigations revealed that the gate had been stolen and disposed of as scrap, prompting immediate action by local law enforcement.
Nandi County police have since appealed to members of the public to share any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect. The scrap metal dealer who allegedly bought the gate is also under investigation to determine whether he knowingly accepted stolen government property.
The bizarre incident has sparked public debate, with many questioning how such a theft could happen at a police station — a place expected to be under constant surveillance.
Police have assured the public that disciplinary action will be taken if any officers are found to have been negligent or complicit in the theft.
