Peter James: Muranga High School Student Who Worked as a Carpenter to Pay His School Fees Scores Grade A

Peter James, a student from Murang’a Boys High School, has earned widespread admiration across Kenya for overcoming significant hardships to secure an A plain in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

James’ path to success was far from straightforward. Financial challenges forced him to miss out on high school, leading him to work as a carpenter in Dandora to support himself. Despite these struggles, his commitment to education never faltered.

His turning point came when philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro, founder of the Affecto Foundation, learned about James’ situation. Nyoro mobilized resources to sponsor James’ education, giving him the opportunity to reach his full potential.

Upon receiving his results, James expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Affecto Foundation and his teachers at Murang’a Boys for their steadfast support. “I wouldn’t have achieved this without their belief in me,” he said.

Nyoro lauded James for his perseverance and hard work, encouraging other students to find inspiration in his story. “Peter’s journey is a testament to the fact that no obstacle is insurmountable with dedication and the right support,” Nyoro remarked.

Now, James is determined to pursue a career in engineering, a dream he once thought beyond his reach.
