Imagine earning money while peacefully sleeping during the day! That’s the intriguing tale of a young Kenyan couple who managed to pocket Ksh.50,000 from their slumber.
The dynamic TikTok duo, Raymax and Maycee Ochieng, popularly known as The Ray’s, have found a unique source of income by livestreaming their daytime naps. The lovebirds engage their audience on TikTok by going live from their bed, letting viewers watch them snooze into the early morning hours.
During a previous interview, Maycee Ochieng shared that they once raked in over Ksh.60,000 in a single week. She reminisced, “There was a week we earned over Sh.60,000. We woke up with Sh.20,000 one day, Sh.30,000 the next, and Sh.10,000 another. People do sleep, yes, but for us, they saw that we also sleep during the day.”
However, the couple disclosed that their weekly earnings have seen a slight decline, attributing it to the short attention span of their Kenyan audience. Maycee expressed disappointment, stating, “Right now, I cannot say it is good. Kenyans get tired so fast with one content. For now, we are not earning well.”
The couple used to receive gifts from fascinated followers, contributing to their impressive weekly earnings. Their success was such that they upgraded from the Kibera slums to a two-bedroom apartment.
Nevertheless, creating content centered around sleep comes with its own set of challenges. Ray mentioned that they receive harsh comments and insults from fans, with some suggesting they find more conventional employment. Despite this, Ray views sleeping as their full-time job since it brings in income. He challenges critics to experience the exhaustion of sleeping for over six hours in one position, constantly facing the camera.
Maycee added that the purpose of their videos is to spread love and showcase their contentment with each other. She emphasized, “Our content does not encourage people to be lazy but just to show the world that love should still be upheld high.”
Optimistic about their future earnings, the duo revealed they have been approached by companies for potential brand endorsements.
