‘Pain that cannot be fully described,Lord Remember Our Country’ – Uhuru mourns pupils killed in Hillside Endarasha fire

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of 17 students at Hillside Endarasha Academy. The heartbreaking incident occurred late on the night of Thursday, September 5, 2024, when a devastating fire broke out, claiming the lives of the young learners and leaving several others injured.

In his statement, President Kenyatta conveyed the indescribable pain of losing young lives filled with potential and hope for the future. “The loss of young lives full of potential and hope for the future is a pain that cannot be fully described. My heart goes out to the families who lost their children and the school community deeply affected by this tragedy of unimaginable magnitude,” he said. He also offered his prayers for the families, hoping they find the strength, comfort, and peace needed to cope with this profound loss. Additionally, he wished for the swift recovery of those who were injured in the incident.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja also shared his condolences, expressing his deep empathy as a parent. “To the parents, families, and friends of the children of Hillside Endarasha Academy, and to the residents of Nyeri, Poleni sana from your brothers and sisters, the people of Nairobi,” Sakaja said. He acknowledged the unbearable pain of losing a child, particularly under such tragic circumstances, and assured the affected families that they are in his thoughts and prayers. He also wished for the quick recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo joined the nation in mourning, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri, which claimed the lives of young pupils and left others injured. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families, friends, and the entire school community during this devastating time,” Omollo stated. He assured the public that DCI officers are on-site, police have secured the area, and disaster response teams are providing aid and counseling to the affected families. He further emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the families and ensuring that such tragedies are prevented in the future.

President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga also sent their messages of condolence and support following the tragic incident that has left the nation in shock.
