“Nikubalie Niongee Kikale!” – MCA Amos Birir Asks Senate Speaker to Allow Him Use Kalenjin

Drama unfolded during a Senate session after MCA Amos Birir passionately requested the Speaker to permit him to address Kericho MCAs in his native Kalenjin language.

Birir, visibly frustrated, argued that some county legislators have been deliberately misleading the House by making false statements. He claimed that switching to Kalenjin would allow him to advise and warn them more directly, without room for misinterpretation.

Nikubalie niongee Kikale!” Birir pleaded, insisting that only by speaking in his mother tongue could he drive the message home effectively. His request sparked laughter in the chamber, but also highlighted the serious concern of dishonesty among county leaders.

The Speaker, however, maintained that Kiswahili and English remain the official languages of the House, urging Birir to stick to the rules of procedure.

The incident has since drawn mixed reactions from the public, with some Kenyans commending Birir for creativity in confronting dishonesty, while others criticized him for attempting to bend parliamentary rules.

This unusual exchange has once again underscored the challenges of accountability and truthfulness in county assemblies, with leaders being reminded that integrity remains central to public service.
