A young woman from Meru County has opened up about her painful past and the struggles she has faced with her parents, saying the relationship has been broken beyond repair.
Elsie Kendi shared that her problems with her parents began when she was a child.
She recalled frequent beatings for minor mistakes, being forced to overwork, and constant threats over school performance.
She explained that her father would warn her that he would stop paying her fees if she failed.
While in her third year at college, Kendi met a man she identified as Evans, who showed her the care and concern she felt she had been denied at home.
At 21, she started earning money online and became financially independent.
According to her, this marked the beginning of deeper conflict with her parents.
Kendi said she eventually moved in with Evans, but her parents reported her to the police, claiming she was underage.
Although she proved her age with identification, she later discovered that her parents had broken into her house and taken all her belongings, including her academic certificates.
She further alleged that her mother demanded KSh 250,000 before returning the documents, which she only managed to recover four years later through police intervention.
Kendi said her efforts to mend ties with her parents have failed.
She recounted that the last time she tried to reconcile, hoping they would meet her in-laws, her father refused, cursed her and later insulted her on the phone.
He went as far as warning her never to visit his home and telling her she would never be happy.
Now, Kendi says she has no plans to reconcile, choosing instead to focus on building her life away from family conflicts.
