Mp Kawanjiku slams Matiang’i ; Matiang’i, used to burn people’s property at Nyamakima, has now become an angel and wants the presidency.

Kiambaa Member of Parliament John Njuguna Wanjiku, popularly known as Kawanjiku, has launched a scathing attack on former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, accusing him of hypocrisy and selective memory as he eyes the presidency.

Speaking during a political event, MP Kawanjiku reminded Kenyans of Matiang’i’s past actions while serving in government, particularly his controversial crackdown on traders in Nyamakima, Nairobi. The MP claimed that Matiang’i’s operations, carried out under the guise of fighting counterfeit goods, led to massive losses for hardworking businesspeople.

“Matiang’i used to burn people’s property at Nyamakima, and now he has become an angel and wants the presidency. He thinks we have forgotten the work he did — burning things in Nyamakima and calling them counterfeit,” Kawanjiku said.

Kawanjiku further warned that Kenyans have not forgotten Matiang’i’s leadership style, which many described as arrogant and oppressive during his time in office.

“Wakati ukifika, tutakumbusha tu,” he added.

His remarks have since stirred a heated debate both online and offline. Some Kenyans supported his sentiments, arguing that Matiang’i’s actions hurt small traders and destroyed livelihoods. Others, however, defended the former CS, saying he was merely enforcing the law against counterfeit goods and protecting the economy.

As the 2027 political season begins to gather momentum, MP Kawanjiku’s statement underscores the growing tension between current leaders and former state officials seeking to re-enter the political arena — reminding everyone that Kenyan politics never forgets.
