Suba North Member of Parliament Jared Okello has publicly taken issue with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over his latest calls for fresh anti-government demonstrations. Okello, speaking firmly, reminded Babu Owino that opposition leader Raila Odinga had already given clear instructions regarding protests long before.
According to Okello, Raila—popularly known as Baba—had urged the Luo community and Azimio supporters to avoid participating in any more street demonstrations, emphasizing the need for dialogue with the government instead of chaos.
“Kabla Baba akufe, alituambia tusiendee maandamano tena,” Okello stated. He insisted that Raila had made it clear that any future political disagreements should be addressed through structured talks rather than violence or running battles with police.
Okello went on to challenge Babu Owino directly, saying that if he still feels the need to organize demonstrations, he should go ahead alone and involve his own family—because many Luo supporters had already moved on from constant protests.
“Ule anataka kufanya maandamano aende yeye na familia yake tu. Sisi Wajaluo tuliacha kuandamana,” he declared, drawing a clear boundary between his constituents and Babu’s fiery brand of politics.
The MP’s remarks have sparked intense debate, with some applauding his stance as mature and forward-looking, while others believe he is undermining the more radical Azimio voices pushing back against government policies.
Babu Owino has long been known for his activism and confrontational political style, often rallying youth and university students in the streets. However, Okello’s comments underline a growing rift within opposition ranks, as some leaders push for peaceful engagement while others demand more aggressive action.
As tensions simmer within Azimio, Kenyans are now watching to see whether Babu Owino will respond—and whether the opposition will remain united or continue to fracture over strategy and direction.
