Justina Syokau, the renowned ‘020’ hitmaker, has consistently followed a tradition of unveiling songs named after each new year. However, the tide took a turn in 2024 as Kenyans fervently requested her to take a hiatus.
Presently expecting, Syokau acknowledged the collective plea from Kenyans and declared her decision to refrain from releasing a 2024-themed song, contrary to her initial plans.
During a recent interview on Mutembei TV, the expectant musician revealed that she had received numerous appeals from a segment of the Kenyan population, urging her not to compose a song centered around 2024.
“There are people who are complaining a lot, by the way. People are saying, ‘Oh, don’t sing about 2024. People are saying, don’t provoke the year. People are saying, let 2024 come unprovoked, don’t sing about it,'” Syokau conveyed.
The controversial gospel singer, while pledging not to venture into a 2024-themed song, also responded defiantly to her critics. She refuted allegations that her songs could bring misfortune and asserted that she does not cast spells on the year, as some have accused.
Justina Syokau emphasized that she should not be held responsible for the challenges that befell certain individuals during the year 2023, leading them to believe that her singing about 2024 might bring about similar troubles.
“I want to tell Kenyans that, as Justina Syokau, I am not going to provoke the year. Not only will I not provoke it, but I also won’t bewitch the year; I don’t engage in sorcery. People are attributing their problems to me, and I want to tell them that I won’t sing a 2024 song. Please, I urge you to have peace, because even when I go to town, people chase me, saying, ‘Don’t release a 2024 song.’ I am not the one bringing problems that I don’t have,” she asserted.
Despite her strong statements, Justina Syokau surprised her audience by ultimately releasing a new song titled ‘2024,’ which premiered on YouTube on December 27, 2023.
