Shock gripped Migori town after a woman abandoned her five-month-old baby at the busy main bus park. Witnesses say the woman handed the child to a schoolgirl, claiming she was running a quick errand. Hours went by, but she never came back, raising alarm among passersby.
Members of the Bunge la Wananchi group, led by Suna West Sub-County chairperson Fredrick Ouma, stepped in and rescued the baby. They later handed the child to police officers and the Children’s Department for protection.
Ouma urged the public to be extra cautious when strangers ask them to watch children or even parcels in public places, warning that such situations could endanger both the child and community members.
Authorities have now launched a search for the missing mother as relatives of the abandoned baby are urged to come forward.
