Following the passing of the renowned Jehovah Wanyonyi, who claimed to be Jesus Christ, a new figure has emerged to fill the void in the Luhya community. This individual, known as Mwalimu Yesu, hails from Tongaren in western Kenya, boldly asserting that he is the authentic Jesus.
Mwalimu Yesu asserts that he has been divinely commissioned by God to undertake the task of saving the world. He professes to engage in direct conversations with God, drawing parallels to the biblical Jesus Christ. Mirroring the biblical narrative, Mwalimu Yesu has assembled a group of 12 disciples, each bearing names reminiscent of the biblical figures.
The disciples play a pivotal role in expanding Mwalimu Yesu’s ministry, which is governed by specific rules. Prospective attendees must undergo a repentance session in a separate location before gaining access to the main church, as directed by the almighty God himself.
Unlike the biblical Jesus Christ, Mwalimu Yesu, also known as the Teacher, is a married man. His spouse, identified as Benjamin, is among his disciples, and together they have been blessed with eight children. This deviation from the biblical account, where Jesus Christ was unmarried and childless, sets Mwalimu Yesu apart in his own unique interpretation of divine leadership.
Within the community, Mwalimu Yesu is revered by his disciples and followers, who express their devotion through kneeling in worship. They attribute miraculous healing powers to him, firmly believing that he is the path to salvation. Despite the departure from the traditional portrayal of Jesus Christ, Mwalimu Yesu’s followers remain steadfast in their conviction, accepting him as their spiritual guide.
