The popular television show Mother-in-law features the well-known actor Mzee Mwamba and airs on Citizen TV every Sunday at 7:30 pm, immediately following the Swahili news broadcast. Mwamba, whose name means “hard rock,” plays the role of the reliable family member in the show.
Born and raised in the Marrison area of Nairobi County, Mwamba’s birth year of 1954 makes him 68 years old in 2022. Despite his successful acting career, there is a lack of publicly available information about his family background.
Mwamba attended Marison Primary School and Dagoretti High School for his formal education. Although he had participated in school theatre festivals, he chose to pursue acting as a profession after graduating.
Mwamba began his acting career in the 1980s while still in school. He was inspired to pursue acting after seeing one of his favorite actors, Mzee Ojwang, in a play. He later became a member of Mzee Ojwang’s acting troupe, where he lived for a long time. In 2008, he gained more recognition after joining the cast of the popular show Mother-in-law.
Despite his busy career, Mwamba is a devoted family man. He has been married to Alice Wacuka, and they have been blessed with many children and grandchildren.
