Meet Muchiri, Harambee Stars Player Who Dropped From Being A Priest To Focus On Football

Boniface Muchiri could have been a priest today, spreading the gospel, but he chose a different path—one that allows him to spread the ball across the pitch with his electrifying skills. His parents had hoped he would pursue priesthood, but Muchiri dropped out of seminary school to chase his passion for football. That bold decision has paid off handsomely, earning him Ksh. 5.5 million in less than 20 days.

The 29-year-old football star was born and raised in Busia County and hails from the Teso community. His love for football was evident from childhood. After high school, Bishop Sulumeti enrolled him in a priesthood school in Maseno, but his heart was elsewhere. He eventually left the seminary to focus fully on football.

Muchiri’s career began at Nzoia Sugar before an opportunity took him to the United States for trials during the COVID-19 pandemic. After six months, he returned to Kenya, joined Tusker FC, and later enlisted with Ulinzi Stars, where he also became a Kenya Defence Forces officer.

Today, Muchiri is a key player in coach Ben McCarthy’s squad, shining in the CHAN tournament and proving that following one’s passion can lead to greatness.
