Mary-Ann Musangi, daughter of the late billionaire Chris Kirubi, is among the most influential women in Kenya.
She took over the management of her father’s Sh40 billion estate after his passing in June 2021. Kirubi had investments in media, real estate, agriculture, manufacturing, and technology.
Born in 1971 in Nairobi, Mary-Ann grew up alongside her brother Robert and stepsister Fiona following her parents’ separation. At age 12, she was sent to Switzerland for school, a move she credits for shaping her.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Surrey and a Master’s in Management from the UK. She worked at top firms including Coca-Cola, KCB, GlaxoSmithKline, and Ogilvy & Mather.
Mary-Ann served on multiple company boards and launched two restaurants before the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to close.
In 2019, she became Managing Director of Haco Industries, which she transformed into a leading local manufacturer.
She says her father’s best gift was education and that working with him for five years prepared her for leadership.
