Man Injured After Girlfriend Pours Hot Water on Him, steals KSh 318K

What was meant to be a season of love has instead become a period of pain and uncertainty for Steve Godia, a third-year student at Multimedia University of Kenya.

The student is currently recovering in a Nairobi hospital after an alleged violent incident at his rented house in Umoja I Estate. According to Godia, the confrontation happened on the night before Valentine’s Day when he met his girlfriend to address tensions in their relationship.

He claims the discussion escalated after she questioned him about a past relationship and felt dissatisfied with his response. Godia alleges that during the altercation, she boiled water and poured it on his face, leaving him with severe burns. By morning, he says his face was badly swollen and he could barely see.

“It was my girlfriend who burnt me because she felt my explanation was not enough,” he said while receiving treatment.

In addition to the injuries, Godia alleges that two mobile phones were taken from him and that KSh 318,000 was transferred from his account, leaving only KSh 7. CCTV footage reportedly shows a woman leaving the premises shortly after the incident.

He has identified the suspect as Gladwell Kagai, someone he says he had known for three years.

The matter was reported to police and is being investigated as attempted murder and grievous assault. However, more than a week after the alleged attack, no arrest had been made, raising concern for the student and his family.

The incident has also disrupted his academic calendar, as he has reportedly missed university exams while focusing on treatment and recovery.

Authorities are continuing investigations as Godia calls for swift action and due process in the case.
