Makueni: Wambua whips 4kg of Ugali in 10 minutes with a cup of soup

The awareness of Ugali consumption is limited among the Kambas, leading to its relatively low popularity in the region. Consequently, the routine consumption of Ugali is not a widespread practice among many residents. Recently, a noteworthy incident unfolded in the Makueni constituency, redirecting the discourse on Ugali consumption.

In a surprising turn of events reported on Monday, a young man showcased his remarkable talent in Ugali consumption, positioning himself as a strong contender for the title of the most voracious Ugali eater. The breaking news emerged from the Makueni constituency, challenging the prevailing notion that Ugali is not a well-embraced culinary choice in the area.

On that particular Monday, members of a local church organized an unconventional Ugali eating contest, and Festus Wambua, a recent addition to the Makueni constituency and a newly initiated member of the church, eagerly participated. Despite his novice status within the congregation, he rose to the occasion when the Ugali-eating challenge was announced.

Ugali, a dish often deemed challenging to consume in significant quantities, is typically accompanied by soup for easier ingestion. However, Festus Wambua, characterized by his youthfulness and energy, found the task surprisingly manageable. His determination and prowess in Ugali consumption propelled him to emerge victorious in the competition.

In reflection on his triumph, Festus Wambua remarked, “Leo ilikuwa siku yangu ya Kwanza Kwa hii church” (Today was my first day in this church). He expressed gratitude to God for his victory and affirmed his commitment to attending the church every Sunday.

The Ugali eating contest, gaining traction and popularity, is not unique to the Makueni constituency. Similar events have recently garnered attention nationwide, with reports of individuals showcasing extraordinary Ugali-eating feats. In a noteworthy example, a man from Bungoma trended after consuming 2kg of Ugali in a mere 10 minutes, further highlighting the growing fascination with and recognition of Ugali-eating prowess in the country.
