Linet Omusula, a determined woman from Kakamega, has overcome significant obstacles to transform her life. Through her earnings as a househelp in Saudi Arabia, she was able to purchase two land parcels and construct rental houses, defying the odds and building wealth.
Having worked in the Middle East for a decade, Omusula has faced numerous challenges, but her journey is one of resilience and perseverance. In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, she shared her inspiring story, revealing that she bought the land and began construction of rental units in 2020.
“I started with six rooms, the ones painted green and orange, in 2020. The second building started in June last year and was completed in September this year,” she said.
Her dedication and hard work are reflected in her achievements. Omusula, who last visited her hometown in 2017, plans to return permanently after completing her own home.
Responding to common misconceptions about money earned in Saudi Arabia, she remarked, “I often hear people say that money from Saudi is ‘cursed,’ but I disagree. With prayer, commitment, and discipline, you can succeed. Saudi Arabia has transformed me; it has lifted me from grass to grace.”
Omusula attributes her success to discipline and savings. She acknowledged the hardships of working in Saudi Arabia, especially in a household of 10 people.
“I do everything—cleaning, cooking, ironing, and more. Sometimes, I face insults, but I endure because I have a bigger goal,” she shared.
Despite the challenges, Omusula prefers her experience in Saudi Arabia to working as a househelp in Kenya. She believes that with determination, any househelp can achieve their dreams.
“Being a househelp doesn’t limit you. Many people have reached their goals through this job,” she said.
