Kisumu Son Builds Decent House for His Widowed Mother, Celebrates the Milestone

A journalist from Kisumu, Kelly Ken Rodgers Odinga, is celebrating a personal milestone after completing the first phase of a new home for his mother, Min Odinga. The young media personality shared that the project, though modest, brings comfort and peace to a woman who has endured years of housing struggles.

The 29-year-old said the new three-bedroom house replaces the old, nearly collapsing hut where they grew up. He noted that while the new home may not be luxurious, it offers a safe and dignified space for his mother, who has been widowed for many years.

“The most important thing is that she now has peace,” Kelly remarked, expressing gratitude for reaching this point. “It’s a small win, but a meaningful one.”

Kelly shared that his journey has not been easy. He lost his father when he was still an infant, and the family has faced many hardships since then. Through determination and support from close relatives, he managed to fund the construction using proceeds from his work as a digital content creator.

However, the process came with its own setbacks. At one point, money he had saved for the house was stolen from his home. Despite the loss, he remained focused on completing the dream.

“Even after the theft, I didn’t give up. I was determined to make this happen,” he said.

Phase one of the house is now complete, with the remaining work including electrical fittings and final touches. Encouragingly, members of the public have shown support for the project. One well-wisher offered to donate cement, while another volunteered to help with installation services.

For Kelly, seeing his mother finally living in a safe and comfortable home is a dream come true — a gift born from perseverance and love.
