Murang’a County Senator, Irungu Kang’ata has said that he attended a Senate Health Committee where Murang’a Governor, Mwangi Wa Iria was asked to explain how he used Covid 19 funds.
In the virtual meeting, Wa Iria said that the Murang’a Level 5 hospital has lately been receiving a lot of Covid-19 cases adding that he used the funds to buy ICU beds and Oxygen.
Wairia however failed to explain to the committee why he has two accounts of Covid-19 funds.
According to Kang’ata the main reason he raised the issues was to help the county Health Care to become a world class.
“Yesterday I attended Senate Health Committee meeting where Muranga Governor was put to task on how the county expended covid 19 funds disbursed by national government.I raised pertinent issues that need immediate remedy so that our county healthcare becomes world-class,” the Senator said.
Notably, the Murang’a Governor, Mwangi Wa Iria has been given 7-day ultimatum to produce evidence on budgeting and expenditure of money meant to cushion residents against COVID-19.
