Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has announced his decision not to pursue legal action against those responsible for looting his newly launched club, Timba XO, during the ongoing protests against the Finance Bill.
Sudi, visibly dismayed in a social media video, expressed profound sadness at the extensive damage inflicted on his upscale establishment. He attributed the destruction to what he described as “goons” who, he claimed, infiltrated the protests led by Gen Z.
“I am deeply saddened by the events at Club Timba. My focus has always been on construction, whether it’s schools or churches. I’ve never endorsed vandalism,” Sudi stated emotionally.
The looters reportedly made away with valuable items, including high-end alcohol, prompting Sudi to address them directly in his video, refraining from retaliation.
Despite assertions that the perpetrators were from his own community rather than representatives of Gen Z, Sudi dismissed any intention of escalating the matter legally. Instead, he opted to suspend his plans temporarily.
“To those behind this, I wish you well. You’ve misused our youth. I believe in the potential of our young people, and this violence was unnecessary,” Sudi added, appealing for calm amidst the post-protest turmoil marked by widespread property damage and unrest.
In addition to the video, Oscar Sudi issued a written statement:
“The events that unfolded on Tuesday, following what was initially a peaceful protest by Gen Z, are regrettable. The loss of life, looting, and property damage that occurred are deeply troubling and contrary to the principles of our constitution.
Throughout my life, I have never orchestrated harm or malice towards my political competitors. It’s disheartening when such incidents exploit innocent youth during what should have been a peaceful protest.”
In light of the chaos, Sudi declared an immediate suspension of all his political activities, acknowledging his vulnerability in protecting his properties.
