Kakamega: Pregnant woman accidentally gives birth in pit Toilet, drops baby during ‘long call’ session

In Kakamega County, a pregnant woman from Lwatingu village shared a distressing incident that occurred on Sunday. Unaware of her approaching due date, she went to the bathroom to relieve herself and unexpectedly went into labor, leading to an unplanned home birth.

Recalling the unfortunate event, she expressed, “I had gone to relieve myself, and unfortunately, the baby accidentally fell into the pit latrine.” It was a harrowing situation for her, as she had no idea she was about to give birth.

The woman, who is a mother of three, began experiencing labor pains around 3 am and urgently requested her husband to arrange transportation to the hospital. However, her husband’s delay in seeking assistance resulted in him leaving the house at 5 am to find transportation.

Desperate for help, she had asked her husband to find two people who could accompany her to the hospital, but he hesitated, claiming that people in the area didn’t usually come out at night.

Later on, the husband noticed that his wife no longer appeared pregnant, prompting him to inquire about the baby’s whereabouts. The discovery of blood stains in the pit latrine raised alarm, and he sought help from their neighbors to understand what had happened to the newborn.

Concerned residents and the police promptly gathered at the scene, attempting to rescue the newborn from the pit latrine. Realizing the complexity of the situation, they called for additional rescue teams to aid in the operation at the homestead.
