Juja MP George Koimburi Allegedly Abducted Outside Kiambu Church; Wife Injured

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi was allegedly abducted by unknown individuals on the afternoon of Sunday, May 25, outside a church in Kiambu County. This incident occurred just two days after he reportedly escaped a similar attempt on his life using a motorcycle.

According to eyewitnesses, Koimburi was taken during a church service at the Full Gospel Church in Mugutha. He was reportedly forced into a Subaru vehicle as the congregation looked on.

Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, a close ally of the MP, confirmed the abduction while speaking to local media. He stated that Koimburi’s wife sustained injuries while trying to stop the attackers from taking her husband.

“They have been trailing him since last week when he was issuing bursaries. It was by sheer luck that he escaped on a motorbike,” Senator Thang’wa revealed.

Reports indicate that Koimburi had gone into hiding after a failed abduction attempt on Friday. He reappeared on Sunday at the Mugutha church before being taken.

The MP’s troubles appear to have started on Friday, May 23, while he was at Gachororo Primary School issuing bursaries. Upon learning he might be targeted, he abandoned his car and driver and fled the scene on a motorcycle.

His driver was later taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, questioned, and then released.

This was not the first time Koimburi had avoided authorities. In February, he evaded arrest outside the Kiambu Law Courts shortly after addressing the media with his lawyers. At the time, he faced six charges related to alleged forgery of academic documents dating back nearly 30 years.

The motive behind the latest incident remains unclear, and Koimburi’s allies claim he was never served with any official summons prior to the attempted arrests.
