Political temperatures within the opposition and ruling camps have risen sharply after Wiper Party’s Joyce Wangui issued a scathing response to former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar. This follows Omar’s recent criticism of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i—remarks that have not sat well with several leaders within the Azimio coalition.
In a bold and uncompromising statement, Joyce Wangui accused Hassan Omar of hypocrisy and political opportunism, insisting that he has no moral authority to lecture respected national figures like Kalonzo and Matiang’i.
According to Wangui, Omar’s political journey exposes him as a “political socialite” who drifts wherever opportunities appear, unlike leaders who hold firm positions regardless of political pressure. She reminded him that before joining the UDA camp, Omar heavily relied on the Wiper Party—arguing that he should at least show respect to the people who once supported him.
Her message was direct and unapologetic:
“Hassan Omar, you must respect Kalonzo and Matiang’i. Unlike you, who is a political socialite for sale to the highest bidder, they have a stand. Before you were bought by UDA, you were being fed by the Wiper Party. Respect the people who fed you.”
The sharp rebuke has reignited long-standing political rivalries, especially between Wiper loyalists and defectors who joined Kenya Kwanza after the 2022 polls. Wangui’s comments reflect growing frustration within the party over what they see as attempts by Omar and other UDA-allied leaders to undermine Kalonzo’s political stature.
Political analysts note that such exchanges are likely to increase as the country heads toward the 2027 general elections. Kalonzo Musyoka has been positioning himself as a key contender, while UDA leaders continue questioning his influence and political relevance. Wangui’s remarks, therefore, are not just a defense—they signal that Wiper intends to aggressively protect its leader from political attacks as the battle for 2027 shapes up.
Supporters of Kalonzo and Matiang’i have praised Wangui for speaking boldly, while Omar’s allies have dismissed her remarks as political theatrics aimed at energizing Wiper’s base.
What remains clear is that the political rivalry between these camps is far from over. With such fiery exchanges becoming common, Kenya’s political landscape is gearing up for an intense season ahead.
