Interior CS Murkomen states the government is not aware of Jubaland forces in Mandera

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has addressed reports suggesting that Jubaland forces may have crossed into Mandera County, clarifying that the government has not confirmed their presence.

Government Not Aware of Foreign Troops

Speaking on Thursday, Murkomen said security agencies are actively investigating the claims to establish the truth.

“As of now, the government is not aware of Jubaland forces being in Mandera. The matter is under investigation,” he said.

Possible Refugees from Somalia Conflict

The CS further explained that the situation in Somalia—where ongoing clashes have displaced hundreds—might have led to individuals crossing into Kenya.

“If people crossed the border due to fighting in Somalia, they will be identified and handled in line with international law,” Murkomen added.

Heightened Security Concerns

The remarks come amid rising tension along the Kenya-Somalia border, where residents of Mandera have raised concerns over insecurity and alleged movement of foreign forces.

Murkomen assured Kenyans that the government remains committed to safeguarding national security while upholding international obligations regarding refugees and displaced persons.

Murkomen further noted that if individuals crossed the border due to ongoing fighting in Somalia, they will be identified and handled in accordance with international law. 👀
