For 17 long years, Daniel Wanyeki sat behind bars at Kamiti Maximum Prison for a crime he did not commit. His nightmare began when his two young daughters falsely accused him of a serious offence—an accusation that earned him a life sentence.
In 2020, the truth finally came out. One of his daughters bravely testified in court, confessing that she and her sister had been pressured by relatives to lie. The motive? To eliminate Daniel and seize a family property worth over KES 50 million in Ruiru.
On Wednesday, a Thika court ruled there was no evidence to warrant a retrial, finally setting Daniel free after nearly two decades of suffering.
Hannah, the daughter who exposed the lies, broke down in tears: “We were just children and didn’t understand what we were doing. I hope my dad can forgive us.”
Now almost 60, Daniel walks free at last—scarred by years of injustice, but determined to rebuild his life after losing nearly two decades to a wrongful conviction.
